Fatah Hassan • Senior at Drake University • Information Systems Major • Management Minor • Tech Mentor

Meet Fatah Hassan, one of our incredible Tech Mentor Interns! Since joining Pi515 in October, Fatah has played a vital role in our Tech Mentorship Program at Principal Financial Group, offering exceptional guidance and support to our students during class. We’re thrilled to have him on our team! Read on to discover why Fatah chose Pi515 and how his experience here has shaped his journey.

What lessons did you learn from High School?
  1. Enjoy the little things
  2. Try to take as many college credit classes as you can
  3. Be kind to others it doesn’t kill you
What do you wish you had done in High School before coming to college?

Being involved in school, take a step back and breathe, take more challenging classes

Advice for students going into college?

Its going to be hard the first semester than after that you will know the precedent going forward, also don’t take any 8 am classes

Why did you choose Pi515?

As a Des Moines native who grew up in bad socioeconomic challenges, I was immediately drawn to Pi515’s mission to empower students from underrepresented backgrounds. The chance to contribute to a program that opens doors and creates opportunities for students from less fortunate areas is inspiring—but what’s even more rewarding is being part of such a meaningful mission to uplift and impact our community positively.

How has interning for Pi515 impacted your life?

Interning for Pi515 has been transformative. Being part of this mission to help others has deepened my commitment to making a positive impact

I liked teaching more than I knew

What is your favorite coding language?

Python, Visual Basic’s

If you could teach a coding skill to anyone (even a famous figure), who would it be and what would you teach?

Napoleon

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to a beginner coder?

There's a lot of ways to figure out a code

Who or what sparked your initial interest in coding?

Seeing hacker movies and wanting to be like that.
