Event Overview

Capture the Flag, an annual, full-day computer security simulation event hosted at the Pi515 office, is supported by Principal's Cyber Defense Operations team. Motivated by a little friendly competition, students attempt to solve technical puzzles or exploit vulnerable systems to find hidden text strings called "flags."

What to Expect on the Day

Students will work in teams to complete a cybersecurity challenge using TryHackMe’s interactive platform. Through guided problem-solving, participants search for virtual “flags” in scenarios that mirror real situations faced by IT and cybersecurity teams. Mentors and professionals will be available throughout the event to support, answer questions, and share their experiences.

Who's Involved

The event is open to anyone with an interest in cybersecurity—no prior experience required. Cybersecurity professionals from Principal Financial Group lead the event, sharing their career paths, day-to-day work, and technical knowledge while mentoring students during the challenge.

Many students have limited exposure to cybersecurity and the careers behind it. This event helps close that gap by giving students hands-on experience, industry connections, and a clearer understanding of what a career in cybersecurity can look like—all in an accessible, engaging environment.
