Carol Mendez
Carol has joined our team as our Curriculum & Learning Innovation Specialist. In her role she will lead the curriculum creation for all our programming and will work to improve and update Pi515's learning experiences. She will also ensure strategic alignment across programs and strengthen adoption with schools and partners.
Carol is a proud daughter of immigrants, first-generation, and has 15+ years of experience across the education, non-profit, and edtech world. After completing her undergrad at Central College, Carol joined Teach For America and served her AmeriCorps commitment in St Louis. While she thoroughly enjoyed her time in St Louis, she recently returned to her Iowa roots and made Des Moines her home.
Carol's career path was heavily influenced by her own journey through Iowa's public education system. From a young age, she was inspired to help underserved communities. She is deeply committed to ensuring all Iowa youth have access to excellent education, support, mentorship, and career-aligned opportunities. Carol is excited to leverage skills from all her experiences to continue the mission at Pi515.
Carol stays busy with her small business, and in her free time she enjoys spending time with her family, walking/running at Gray's Lake, loves a good puzzle and documentary, and will never turn down a good brunch!
